DI PEOPLE CARE: COMMUNITY ACTION IN PHNOM PENH TO HELP CAMBODIAN ORPHANS

(JUL/AUG 2009) Jay Steed, DI project manager for the State Department’s Weapons Removal & Abatement program in Cambodia, based in Phnom Penh, is a member of the local American Chamber of Commerce, and commander of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post #11575. Each year, the U.S. Embassy, the American Chamber, and the VFW co-host a July 4 celebration with food, music, and festivities. In 2009 they were able to give $900 to Cambodia Corps, Inc., a scholarship program for orphans from remote areas of western Cambodia who agree to return to work with hill tribe people after earning their degree. Jay writes, “Cambodia Corps is run by Vietnam veterans who donate their time. Our donation will cover one month’s operations and living expenses for 11 students. It’s a good program and it needs support.”  Jay is second from the right in the photo.
