IRVING, TEXAS – September 2, 2005
– Leon Vincent (Vince) Kimbrell, an international police liaison
officer serving in Iraq with DynCorp International, was killed today in
Baghdad when the vehicle in which he was riding was struck by a
roadside bomb.
The vehicle sustained a direct blast to the
area where Officer Kimbrell was seated. Mr. Kimbrell, of Boiling
Springs, South Carolina, died at the scene. Three others traveling in
the vehicle were injured, one seriously.
Officer Kimbrell was
an 18-year veteran of the Spartanburg, South Carolina, Police
Department, where he held the rank of sergeant.
Police liaison
officers in Iraq are responsible for training and mentoring Iraqi
police officers under the supervision of the Department of State.
Officer Kimbrell was working as part of the security team.
