FALLS CHURCH, Va.—May 4, 2009—DynCorp International is the lead sponsor of the 10th Annual Lexington County Law Enforcement Officers Association Golf Classic, taking place May 6, 2009 at the Charwood Country Club in West Columbia, South Carolina.
The Lexington County Law Enforcement Officers Association (LCLEOA) is an association of law enforcement officers and emergency service staff that provides charitable services and donations throughout Lexington County. Each year, the Association provides food and assistance to neighbors in need. Their purpose is to provide assistance to widows, children, families in financial need, scholarships to graduating seniors as well as other charities as they arise. The golf classic is in honor of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in Lexington County.
As the lead sponsor, DynCorp International is proud to support this worthy event by establishing four teams to golf in honor of four South Carolina police officers who bravely served, and lost their lives, in Iraq. They were part of the International Civilian Police Program (CIVPOL), of the U.S. Department of State Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). These fallen heroes are an inspiration to us all and a reminder of the courage and sacrifice our law enforcement officers exhibit every day, at home and abroad.
The CIVPOL program supports efforts to build and strengthen modern, professional and democratically-oriented police institutions and law enforcement services in conflict and post-conflict environments. To date, more than 6,000 American police officers have participated in CIVPOL and International Police Advisor missions in Liberia, Kosovo, Bosnia, East Timor, Haiti, Afghanistan and Iraq. Officers are also supporting peacekeeping efforts in Sudan.
The President of the Lexington County Law Enforcement Officers Association, Chief Elizabeth Wright of Pine Ridge Police Department of South Carolina has two police officers from her department currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan under CIVPOL.
The four police officers from South Carolina who gave their lives in Iraq while with CIVPOL are:
Trooper Douglas S. Thomas. He began his law enforcement career in 1987 with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety where he served as a Lance Corporal. Officer Thomas held a bachelor of science degree in Physical Education from the University of South Carolina.
Officer Arsenio D. Domingo. He began his law enforcement career in 1991 with the Charleston Police Department. Mr. Domingo held a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The Citadel. Officer Domingo was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 1987-91, and also served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Officer Leon V. Kimbrell. He began his law enforcement career in 1987 with the Spartanburg Public Safety Department where he served as a Sergeant. Officer Kimbrell held an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Spartanburg Methodist College.
Col. Michael Wayne Butler. U.S. Air Force (Ret). Colonel Butler supervised the Civilian Police Advisory Training Team, which is responsible for the U.S.-led effort to train and equip the 135,000-member Iraqi police service. Colonel Michael W. Butler was the Chief of Logistics, United States Air Forces Central Command (USCENTAF), and Commander, 609th Air Support Squadron, Shaw Air Force Base. Col. Butler held a master of science degree from Troy State University.
The surviving spouses will attend the golf event in appreciation for the LCLEOA’s recognition of the ultimate sacrifice made by their husbands.
The DynCorp International community also extends its sympathy and condolences to the families of all law enforcement officers killed in Lexington County in the line of duty.
The 10th annual Lexington County Law Enforcement Officers Association Golf Classic will take place May 6, 2009, at the Charwood Country Club, 222 Clubhouse Drive, West Columbia, South Carolina. Registration begins at 11:30.
