DynCorp International Helps Troops Overseas Celebrate Thanksgiving

From 2010 to 2013, DynCorp International team members have helped U.S. and coalition troops celebrate Thanksgiving in Afghanistan. The DI Food Service team has created traditional holiday meals each year to bring the military members a taste of home, serving a total of more than 17.5 tons of turkey.

DI’s Food Service teams worked across Afghanistan to plan and serve all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving meal including turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, ham, beef, assorted fruit pies and much more. Throughout the four year span, DI team members have served thousands of Thanksgiving meals each holiday.

In addition, food service managers prepared elaborate and festive Thanksgiving decorations in the dining facilities for service members to enjoy.

The DI Food Service teams have served several thousands of pounds of Thanksgiving fare including:

  • 34,950 pounds of turkey
  • 24,600 pounds of beef
  • 6,200 pounds of stuffing
  • 930 gallons of gravy
  • 12,500 pounds of ham
  • 2,300 gallons of mashed potatoes
  • 10,650 pounds of shrimp
  • 1,830 gallons of sparkling grape juice
  • 3,870 gallons of cranberry sauce
  • 1,800 gallons of non-alcoholic egg nog
  • 10,800 assorted fruit pies

As part of the LOGCAP IV program in Afghanistan, DI team members have served on food service teams which operated multiple full-service dining facilities. DI serves as one of the three contractors currently providing support to the U.S. and Coalition troops overseas under the LOGCAP IV contract. DI has also provided existing bases with operations and maintenance support, including facilities management, electrical power, water, sewage and waste management, laundry operations, food services, and transportation motor pool operations, as well as construction services for other sites.
