KEY PROGRAMS ACROSS ASIA AND THE NEAR EAST

MOBILIZING ACTION AGAINST CORRUPTION IN ARMENIA

The Mobilizing Action Against Corruption (MAAC) program in Armenia has established Assistance & Advocacy Centers in each region of the country, implemented anti-corruption initiatives within government agencies, and sponsored anti-corruption public forums. MAAC's overall goal is to provide Armenians with opportunities that will help them to combat corrupt practices in government and enable systems changes to reduce and prevent corruption. MAAC's purpose is to reduce corruption by:

  • Providing Armenians with opportunities that enable them to help combat corrupt practices that they encounter
  • Changing social attitudes and behavior among youth and adults to help them become attuned to the consequences of corruption and more likely to oppose or confront corruption
  • Enabling systems-level changes to prevent or reduce corruption

ASSESSING CORRUPTION IN MONGOLIA

Casals & Associates completed a U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) assignment to assess corruption in Mongolia. The assessment involved the following:

  • Analyzing the dynamics of corruption existing at all levels of government in Mongolia
  • Evaluating the capacity of government and civil society organizations to address the issue of corruption
  • Describing potential interventions that international donors could sponsor to curb corruption
  • Placing anti-corruption efforts in Mongolia within an international context of "best practices"

TRAINING BUSINESS LEADERS FROM RUSSIA AND KAZAKHSTAN IN CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

Casals & Associates managed a corporate governance training program for business leaders from Russia and Kazakhstan for the U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Administration. The training - which took place in Moscow and Washington, D.C., focused on the following:
