FALLS CHURCH, Va. (May 5, 2009) – DynCorpInternational employee Jeff Erle delivered on a life-savingpromise, participating in the C.W. Young Department of Defense BoneMarrow Donor program. Erle, who is from Tallahassee, Fla, works inKuwait as a lead technical advisor on a DynCorp Internationalaviation maintenance and support contract with the Kuwaiti AirForce. He registered with the Bone Marrow Donor program in 2004,and when he received a call earlier this year informing him that hewas a 1 in 7,000,000 match for a woman battling cancer, he did nothesitate to help, even offering to use his own leavetime.
The medical procedure took place March 17, 2009 at GeorgetownUniversity Hospital in Washington, D.C. All went well, and onlydays later Erle was able to return to Kuwait, with upgraded travelarrangements and restored leave time courtesy of DynCorpInternational. While still in Washington he met Congressman BillYoung of Florida, the founder of the Department of Defense MarrowDonor Center.
Congressman Young is dedicated to improving the quality of lifeof the men and women who serve in the military. In 1986 he wasinstrumental in creating a national registry for bone marrowdonors, named the C.W. Bill Young Marrow Donor Recruitment andResearch Program in his honor. The registry lists more than 7million donors for patients with leukemia and otherlife-threatening diseases, and facilitates an average of 10 bonemarrow transplants every day.
