FALLS CHURCH, Va. (September 2, 2010) – DynCorpInternational today announced that it will donate $10,000 to theAmerican Red Cross to support the people of Pakistan in theaftermath of the worst flooding the country has seen in more than80 years.
The donation will fund relief supplies, mobilize relief workersand provide additional financial resources to the overall reliefeffort. The American Red Cross is working with its partners in theglobal Red Cross and Red Crescent network, including the PakistanRed Crescent Society, to reach those in need.
“As a company that operates globally, it is our responsibilityto assist globally,” said Steve Gaffney, DynCorp Internationalpresident and chief executive officer. “Right now families inPakistan are in need of shelter, health services, and supplies. Wehope our contribution provides them some comfort in such adifficult time.”
The global Red Cross and Red Crescent network announced lastweek that it is quadrupling its emergency activities in Pakistan.The Government of Pakistan Provincial and National DisasterManagement Authorities have raised the number of flood-affectedpeople to nearly 17.6 million, including approximately 10 millionin need of humanitarian assistance.
DynCorp International’s commitment to the Red Cross follows theU.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of ForeignDisaster Assistance’s (OFDA) own significant contribution to theInternational Federation of the Red Cross and Red CrescentSocieties. USAID/OFDA has advised that the most effective way toassist relief efforts is through contributions to humanitarianorganizations that are conducting relief operations.
