(JUN/JUL 2009) Stefan van der Merwe, a South African based in Macedonia working for an American company (DI), had no trouble communicating with Afghans during his visit to Kabul – they speak cricket, the language of the heart for millions. “He saw the concrete pitch and a great chance to connect with local teens. Young Afghans, after all, are our ultimate customers in Afghanistan,” colleague Scott Zurschmit remarked. Beyond the job, DI people are making a difference by participating in local communities around the world. Stefan is DI’s NATO Maintenance Support Site Manager in Skopje, Macedonia. An avid cricketer, he was player of the match in the Macedonian Invitation XI match.
