FALLS CHURCH, Va. (June 08, 2010) – An Americanpolice mentor and a Nepalese security guard working under DynCorpInternational’s Afghan police training contract were tragicallykilled on June 7, 2010, when insurgents attacked a police trainingfacility in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Five others were injured in theattack.
Gary W. Willard, 44, of Resaca, Ga., deployed to Afghanistan asa police mentor on June 22, 2009. Prior to his work in Afghanistan,he was a sergeant with the Calhoun Police Department in Georgia.Earlier, he spent almost ten years with the Whitfield CountySheriff’s Office in Dalton, Ga. Before his law enforcement careerhe was a member of the United States Marine Corps.
Hit Bahadur Gurung, 39, of Nepal worked as a security guard atthe Kandahar police training facility.
“These men supported the mission in Afghanistan with courage,honor and excellence, and gave their lives in pursuit of a moresecure Afghanistan,” said DynCorp International President and CEOBill Ballhaus. “We extend our deepest sympathies to their families,loved ones and colleagues.”
DynCorp International supports the U.S. Department of State’s(DoS) International Civilian Police (CIVPOL) programs undercontract with DoS’s Bureau of International Narcotics and LawEnforcement Affairs (INL).
